Life’s short…

Help!!! I have fallen and I can’t get up!! November 14, 2007

There are somedays where I truly think I could possibly be “special”, not special in the way of “people think I am a special person” but more like the “she should be wearing a hockey helmet” type of special.  Yesterday for example I figured out there is no possible way I can attatch a paperclip to a stack of papers with my left hand…yes…I tried…for.a.good.long.time.  It just wasn’t happening, don’t tell my boss I wasted that much time trying to accomplish such a feat on the company’s dime…please?

Today I set out to try to find a way to design and host my own blog (mainly because I can’t do some certain things on this certain blog host site) and I actually thought I could accomplish this…by.myself.  I spent entirely too much time doing this and also google searching free blog templates that aren’t actually free and then I got sucked into looking at them all anyway…what.a.waste.of.time.  I have tried to use Dreamweaver,  Web easy (easy my ass),  and Go Live…only to figure out that it takes a rocket scientist to work these programs and I am currently only at rocket investigator status.  I have been working on Adobe Photoshop for at least 9 years, which I know is a photo editor, but if I can work every stinking tool on that gosh forsaken program with my eyes closed…why the H-E-double hockey sticks can’t I figure out these stupid web design programs…also…I.am.impatient.

So does anyone have any bright ideas for me before I lose what is left of my ever.lovin’.mind?  Maybe someone knows of a program that I can buy that would be “easy for real” to learn?  Maybe?  I do already own a domain for my photography business site (don’t go there, I still haven’t figured that out one either, I took down the old stuff so I could put up the really awesome cool new one…also.not.happening.) I know I can have like eight gagillion subsites with that, I just don’t know how to put together all of the css.html.rss.meta.lingo.crap.my.head.is.spinning…help!

PS.  Oh yeah…am I asking too much?

And no…I haven’t been drinking either.

Great…it’s not bad enough that I would call myself a dummie…now my BFF is implying it too? Just an FYI…I used the term “Special”.

You would want to see that Rick…stay tuned…

  4. I would say that when it comes to HTML and CSS DreamWeaver is on the easier side but isn’t at all user friendly. I use it a little but I prefer plain old code in Notepad (or Text Edit on the Mac).

I did most of my learning by seeing something I liked on someone else’s site, looking at their source code and….well … stealing parts of it. I think that’s the best way to learn.

    One good resource is w3schools.org

    YEAH!!!! I did it!!!
I was able to attach a paperclip to a stack of papers with my left hand on my first try… So much for me having to wear my hockey helmet today… 🙂
Sorry I can’t help with the site design and software.. When it comes to that I defiantly need to wear my hockey helmet…

Jason, I think I just plain old don’t get it…and what the heck is w3schools.org?

Dj Dawg, I tried the paperclip thing once again today…didn’t work…shut up.

I think what Jason is saying is that he writes his webcode in a plain old text editor.

What I think you are looking for is a pre-made blog template that you could modify and enhance with your exceptional graphics and design skills but still have the “blog” part work on it’s own.

I use Dreamweaver everyday developing my company’s website, and while I think it’s an amazing tool to help with web development, you still need to be a developer to get the most out of it.

Do you mind if I ask you what you want to do on this site that you can’t do using someplace like Blogger.com? The reason I ask is that I used to run my own site for quite a while, but when it came right down to it there really wasn’t anything I COULDN’T do there, and at the end of the day their tools made it easier to blog. So I did the opposite of you, I went from hosting and building my own blog to using a generic one…

Let me know if there is anything you need!

(And w3schools.org is a website that helps with standards and coding if you were planning on building a blog website from the ground up on your own.)

  8. I moved from blogger to WordPress, but you might like the customizing potential of Blogger better, and it is now pretty user friendly.

Hey! Don’t worry, it doesn’t sound like they’ll be sending the Short Bus for you just yet… I found your site on fuelmyblog. It’s funny! My blog is on blogger.com and I haven’t had any issues, although I think I also have pretty low expectations. Check me out if you get a chance! http://www.rqmitchell.blogspot.com.

    Good luck,

    Bex
